Acne – Why me?

Acne is very common in teenagers and younger adults. About 95% of people aged 11 to 30 are affected by acne to some extent. Acne is most common in girls from the ages of 14 to 17 and in boys from the ages of 16 to 19.

Acne – What are the causes?

Acne is caused by overactive oil glands in the skin and a buildup of the oil( Sebum) plus dead skin cells, and bacteria., When the glands begin to produce too much sebum the excess mixes with dead skin cells and both substances form a plug in the follicle. If the plugged follicle is close to the surface of the skin, it bulges outwards, creating a whitehead. Oil glands get stimulated when hormones become active during puberty. That is why people are likely to get acne in their teens.

Acne – Light Therapy Treatment?

The FDA approving LED  BLUE/RED light home use devices for the treatment of mild to moderate acne is a significant event due to the controversy that has surrounded certain prescribed acne oral medications. Also, the worldwide concern over the increasing bacterial resistance to antibacterial medication has made Phototherapy a welcome addition to the tools available for acne treatment.

The S.A.F.E option

*Safe

*Affordable

*Free of drugs

*Effective

Clinical results show that at-home devices can be just as effective at treating mild to moderate acne, they are lower intensity than those used in a doctor’s office. However, this also means that they can be used more frequently (Daily if needed) in addition due to their small, portable nature and affordable price point, they are more convenient to incorporate into your routine. The economics are significant, a typical treatment in a dermatologist's office can range anywhere from $50–$100 per session, and patients are typically advised to come in twice weekly for several months, making it an expensive program.

What an international leader in light therapy says:-

Michael Hamblin, Ph.D., an associate professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School an international leader in modern light therapy states:-

“Instead of trekking to the doctor’s office to have light shined on them, consumers can now shine a light on themselves at home. The light is the same, there are few safety issues, and it is a fraction of the cost... And thanks to the recent availability of low-cost, heat-free (and thus safer) light-emitting diodes (LEDs), there are more do-it-yourself gadgets for treating acne, depression, and pain online.
